I thought I’d expand on my earlier post about twittering and talk a bit more about my twitpic replacement. I’ll probably talk about my short URL service at some point too. I’ve only recently started tweeting. I’m still not sure if I’ll be doing it for very long with only a handful of followers, but I’ve started never the less.
After following a few of the bigger twitter names (@rickygervais, @Lord_Sugar and of cause @stephenfry) I noticed they would often upload a picture to attach to their tweets. They mainly used services such as lockerz, twitter own image host (in partnership with PhotoBucket) and Twitpic. But when I looked into it, a lot of these image hosting services took the copyright of the image when you uploaded it. Or at least granted themselves rights to sell the image. My name server host has been down this afternoon. I was trying a small unknown company who had four servers around the world, but were based in Russia. I’ve come back to good old blighty, in the mean time.
I’ve been working really hard over the last few days on this site. If anyone has visited over the last few days, you won’t have noticed any difference, but work has been going on behind scenes.
I’ve started twittering to take advantage of some of the things I’ve developed on my new site. I’m quite proud of two things in particular.
1. I’ve bought another new domain; admw.eu is my new super short domain, I am using it to host my own twitter pics, just like twitpic or yfrog. The difference is that the copyright stays with me, as does the traffic. So if I end up taking an image that gets broadcast around the globe, I can make the money from it!
2. I’m using my domain adamw.eu (my next shortest domain) to create a url shortening service. Using the url shortening system yoURLs, I can make this posts URL to adamw.eu/i from adamwelch.co.uk/2011/10/twittering. Clever eh and really useful in tweets and facebook status’?
It’s all very geeky, but I’m a geek and a proud geek at that! Oh, and this post should be tweeted within the next few minutes on my twitter account @AW_101
Here we are again. Another month, another site redesign.
I’ve decided to try good old WordPress once more. I found a website created in WP with one of these lovely grid themes. It looked fantastic, and I hope I can make mine look pretty good too.
I did try google sites, I think I gave it a good shot but there was one issue which I couldn’t get round. When you post a blog (sorry “announcement”), the RSS feed always shows your full email address. Great for spammers, rubbish for me. I searched high and low, but that’s the way it is say google.
I’ll still be using google for all my email needs, and it’s currently fullfilling all my document needs, but sadly it lacked in the website field.
